Perennial growing to 1m/3ft high with bitter scented, finely cut silver/grey leaves and small yellow/green flowers. Requires good drainage and full sun.
Wormwood been used externally as a warm compress to sooth sprains. The fresh or dried shoots are said to deter insects and mice. It contains a substance called sesquiterpene lactones which are strongly insecticidal. Use as a companion plant to help deter aphids and flea beetles from neighbouring plants. Its yellow flowers attract lacewings, ladybirds and hoverflies that feed on aphids.
