Herbaceous woodland perennial growing to about 10cm/4in high and reaching about 30cm/12in across. Clover-shaped leaves that fold up at night or in the rain, and small white flowers. Prefers some shade and thrives in deep shade and damp conditions. Good ground cover plant.
Like other sorrels, Wood Sorrel contains oxalic acid giving the leaves a lemony flavour that should be eaten in moderation. Leaves can be harvested throughout the growing season and are a nice addition to salads. Flowers can also be eaten in spring.
