An annual growing to 0.6m high – thrives in most soil types but prefers moist soil and cannot tolerate shade. An edible plant, young leaves can be eaten raw or cooked, much like spinach. High in Vitamins A and C. It also produces small (12mm diameter) red fruits (hence the name Strawberry Spinach) which are also edible. This plant should be consumed in moderation due to containing oxalic acid and saponins. Also a very ornamental plant – a great addition to the garden.
