A biennial where frosts occur but can continue up to about five years in colder climates before flowering. Plants can reach a couple of metres in height. Protect young plants from slugs and snails. Plant out at a distance of 0.6m/2 feet between plants. Cultivated for its edible leaves that are available year-round but tastier in colder months. Having several plants helps ensure a continuous supply. Pick leaves before they reach maximum size and use cooked as other kales.
