Small, deciduous, hardy tree. Treat as fruiting mulberries. Prefers full sun, shelter and a well-drained soil.
The bark is still used in parts of Asia for making paper. The bark fibre can also be made in to cloth or rope. Edible leaves when cooked. Young leaves are deeply lobed and very attractive. Female trees produce edible sweet orange/red fruits in Autumn. Male trees produce catkins.
