Jersey Walking Stick Kale (Brassica oleracea var longata)
Organically grown, well-rooted Jersey Walking Stick Kale plants.
This Channel Islands heirloom kale makes a tall, straight stem reaching 2m (6ft) tall, with a rosette of edible leaves on top. When the stems mature in the autumn, they can be cut, dried and later carved and varnished to make beautiful walking sticks.
Cabbage-like leaves are edible, producing enough to keep you going for the season. Use cooked as other Kales.
A short lived perennial, left to grow for a second year they may increase in height to over 3m (9½ft).
Height: 2m. Spread: 60cm. Protect young plants from slugs and snails.
Plant out at a distance of 0.6m/2 feet between plants.
