Fantastic ground cover perennial herb for shady areas. Height of approx 20cm/8". Bright white star-shaped flowers in spring. Whole herb highly scented (like freshly-mown hay) - scent increasing on drying.
The leaves are traditionally used to flavour white wine. They can also be added raw to fruit salads or added to cooling drinks for flavour. A delicious tea can also be made from the dried leaves and flowers.
Medicinally, Sweet Woodruff has been used since the Middle Ages - in current day herbalism it is used as a tonic for relief of stomach pains. The herb is thought to have anti-inflammatory properties.
