Small, evergreen/semi-evergreen, clump-forming plants. Reaching 15-20cm high with heart-shaped leaves and scented violet flowers in spring.
Can be used for ground cover in forest garden situation (planted quite closely) as they are quite tolerant of shade. They spread by rhizomes and self seed freely.
Sweet Violet flowers can be added to salads and leaves can be cooked. Leaves can be used as a poultice or ointment to help relive inflammation.
