Aztec Broccoli / Huauzontle (Chenopodium berlandieri)

One of the few annual vegetables we grow – it is well worth it!

A fast-growing plant of the Chenopodium family, reaching about 1.2m (4ft) high. It can be used for its edible leaves but also as a similar vegetable to Purple Sprouting Broccoli. The plant quickly puts out hundreds of flowering shoots that can be harvested just before the flower buds break. The more you harvest, the more shoots the plant produces. Boil or steam – Aztec Broccoli retains its texture when cooked, it’s a really great addition to dishes and a real favourite with us!
